호주 국세청(ATO)이 최근 내놓은 호주인의 과세소득 자료를 분석한 결과 80여 직종에서 여성 소득이 남성보다 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이 가운데는 일부 스포츠 선수, 정치인, 패스트푸드 요리사, 리셉셔니스트(Receptionist), 양 농장 종사자 등이 포함되어 있다. 서퍼 선수도 여성 수입이 더 높은 직업이었다(사진).

남녀 임금격차는 호주뿐 아니라 전 세계의 오랜 문제다. 약 1천 개에 달하는 직종에서 남성이 여성보다 더 높은 소득을 받고 있다. 그러나 최근 조사에서 여성의 소득이 남성보다 높은 직업이 80개에 이르는 것으로 나타났다.
호주국세청(Australian Taxation Office. ATO)이 지난 주 금요일(27일) 내놓은 호주인 소득 자료를 토대로 ABC 방송이 분석한 바에 따르면 일부 스포츠 선수 및 정치인, 패스트푸드 요리사, 리셉셔니스트(Receptionist), 가구 운송업, 극장 영사기사, 양 농장 등의 직종에서는 여성 수입이 남성을 앞질렀다.
이번 자료는 2015-16년 회계연도를 기준으로 1천600만 명의 호주인들이 신고한 세금을 직업별로 조사, 분석한 것으로 파트타임(part-time)과 풀타임(full-time)인지의 여부는 알 수 없다. 또한 이번 통계자료에 나타난 숫자는 모든 세금 공제액을 제한 후에 남는 순 수익을 계산한 결과이다. 따라서 직업에 따른 총소득에는 상당한 차이가 있을 수 있다.
의사와 운동선수
남녀 임금격차 가장 높아
일반적으로 세전소득이 가장 높은 직업은 외과전문의로 평균 연봉은 393,467 달러다. 다음은 마취 전문의와 내과 전문의 및 증권중개인다. 이러한 전문직 고소득 직업군 중에서 과세대상 소득 기준 남성과 여성의 소득격차가 가장 큰 직업은 이비인후과 전문의로 남성의 평균 소득은 여성보다 30만 달러가 더 높았다.
자료에 따르면 운동선수도 남녀 임금격차가 높은 직업군 중 하나로, 크리켓 선수의 경우 남성의 평균소득이 여성보다 27만 달러가 더 높은 큰 차이를 보였다.
ATO의 자료에 따르면 남녀 임금격차가 가장 크면서 여성이 남성보다 더 소득이 높은 직업군은 다른 ‘직업군에는 속하지 않는 의회의원들’과 ‘원주민 커뮤니티 카운슬 의원들’ 및 ‘원주민 토지 카운슬러’로 각 주의 장관급들이 이에 해당한다. 여성 6명과 남성 19명이 이 직업군에 속해 있으며, 여성의 연봉은 28만6,676 달러로 남성(16만9,148 달러) 보다 거의 두 배 가량이 높았다.
또한 선물거래 전문가도 여성의 소득이 남성보다 우세한 직업군으로 여성과 남성의 평균연봉은 각각 38만8,681 달러, 30만923 달러였다. 운동선수 중에는 여성 서퍼들(surfer)이 남성보다 소득이 높아, 여성(6만8,178 달러)과 남성(4만,396 달러) 사이에 약 2만8천 달러의 임금격차가 발생했다. 양 농장 업계도 여성이 6만6,127 달러로 남성(4만4,495 달러)보다 임금수준이 높았다.
