‘Sydney Grammar’, 132개 과목 중 11개 과목서 ‘최고’ 차지
NSW 주 하이스쿨 학생들의 대학입학을 가름하는 HSC 시험 결과가 전자메일(e-mail)과 SNS 문자를 통해 발송된 가운데 NSW 주 교육표준청(NSW Education Standards Authority, NESA)이 올해 HSC 각 과목 최고 득점자들을 축하하는 특별 시상식을 개최했다.
금주 수요일(12일) 열린 이 시상에서는 전체 132개의 각 과목에서 최고 점수를 획득한 92개 학교 학생 132명에게 특별상이 수여됐다.
과목별 최고득점 배출 학교를 보면 달링허스트(Darlinghurst) 소재 ‘Sydney Grammar School’ 학생들이 ‘Ancient History’부터 ‘Chinese’에 이르기까지 11개 과목에서 가장 많은 최고 득점자를 배출했다. 이 학교 학생 10명이 ‘English Extension 1’, ‘Ancient History’, ‘Music 1’ 등 11개 과목에서 ‘최고득점자 상’을 수여받았으며, 이중 알렉산터 야오(Alexander Yao) 학생은 외국어인 ‘French’와 ‘Germany’ 과목에서 최고 점수를 받았다.
한 학교에서 이렇게 많은 최고 득점자를 배출해낸 경우는 매우 드물다. 지난해 ‘Fort Street High School’ 학생 4명이 6개 과목에서 최고점수를 받았고, ‘Sydney Grammar School’에서 7명의 각 과목 최고 득점자를 배출했지만, 올해 ‘Sydney Grammar School’은 HSC 역사상 이례적으로 가장 많은 1등을 배출해 낸 학교로 주목을 받았다.
다음으로 많은 최고 득점자를 배출해 낸 학교는 ‘Pymble Ladies College’로 학생 4명이 ‘Dance’, 'English as a second language’, ‘Food technology’ 및 ‘Agriculture’ 과목에서 최고 점수를 받았으며, ‘James Ruse Agricultural High School’과 ‘Abbotsleigh School’에서는 각각 3명의 과목별 최고 득점자가 나왔다.
과목별로 살펴보면, ‘Maths general 2’의 최고 득점자는 10명이 나왔으며, ‘Mathematics 1’ 최고 득점자 2명은 각각 ‘Sydney Boys High School’과 서덜랜드(Sutherland)에 소재한 ‘St Patrick's College’ 학생이다.
올해 두 과목 최고 득점자는 4명으로 이중 3명은 ‘Biology’와 ‘German extension’ 과목에서 1등을 한 ‘Ascham School’의 엘리자 폭스(Eliza Fox) 학생과 ‘Maths extension 1’과 ‘Chemistry’ 과목에서 1등을 차지한 ‘James Ruse Agricultural High School’의 레이먼드 리(Raymond Li) 학생, ‘Music 2’와 ‘Music extension’ 과목에서 모두 1등을 차지한 ‘Abbotsleigh School’의 사라 창(Sarah Chang) 학생이다.
지난해 ‘Earth’ 및 ‘Environmental science'에서 최고 점수를 기록한 바 있는 ‘Fort Street High School’의 존 비벨(John Bivell) 학생은 올해 ‘Economics' 과목에서 최고 점수를 받았다.
‘Cheltenham Girls' High School’의 11학년 엠마 부이(Emma Bui) 학생은 'Aboriginal Studies' 과목에서 가장 높은 점수를 받아 주목을 받기도 했다.
